Your toddler carries a small basket of light items from one room to another, a real helping job that gives their urge to move things a clear purpose.

How to do it

  1. Fill a small light basket with a few soft or unbreakable items.
  2. Tell your toddler where the basket needs to go, pointing to the spot.
  3. Hand them the basket with both handles and let them carry it at their own pace.
  4. Walk alongside so you can steady them if they wobble.
  5. Thank them when the basket arrives and let them unload it if they want to.

Make it yours

Younger, 12-15 months: Keep the trip very short and the basket nearly empty. Older, 2-3 years: Give a real errand like carrying napkins to the table. Siblings: Give each child a basket and make it a two-person delivery.
