Your child makes a poster arguing for something they would like to change at home, using reasons and a clear headline, then presents it to the family.

How to do it

  1. Ask your child what small change they would like at home, such as a later reading time or a new family game night.
  2. Help them come up with two or three reasons someone might agree, thinking about what matters to the whole family.
  3. Have them design a poster with a short headline, their reasons, and a picture or two.
  4. Let them present the poster to the family, reading the headline and walking through each reason.
  5. As a family, talk it over and decide together, treating it as a real proposal to discuss.

What you need

  • Large paper
  • Markers
  • Pencil

Make it yours

Younger, 6 to 8 years: One reason and a big picture is plenty, with the adult helping write the headline. Older, 10 to 12 years: Add a counter-argument and a response to it, or make the case for a change at school or in the neighbourhood. Siblings: They can team up on one shared request or each make a poster and present in turn
