Your child chooses a movement challenge, measures how they do now, and practises over days to beat their own personal best, competing only against themselves.

How to do it

  1. Have your child pick a safe movement challenge they enjoy, such as how many star jumps in a minute or how far they can hop.
  2. Warm up together with some easy movement first.
  3. Measure their starting score and write it down as the baseline.
  4. Over the next days, your child practises and records each new attempt, always comparing to their own last score.
  5. Celebrate when they beat their personal best, and let them reset the target a little higher.

Make it yours

Younger, 6 to 8 years: A simple challenge measured in a fun way, such as counting hops, with less focus on exact numbers. Older, 10 to 12 years: Track a couple of challenges, add a short warm-up routine they design, and chart their progress. Siblings: Each keeps their own personal-best log; avoid head-to-head comparison and celebrate each child's own gains
