Your toddler wipes a low table with a small damp cloth, a real practical-life job with a clear beginning and end that they can do all by themselves.

How to do it

  1. Dampen a small cloth with plain water and wring it out so it is not dripping.
  2. Show your toddler once how to wipe across the table in a simple motion.
  3. Hand over the cloth and let them wipe wherever they like on the low table.
  4. Point out a spot they missed only if they are still interested.
  5. Finish by hanging or setting the cloth in its place together so the job feels complete.

What you need

  • Cloth
  • Water

Make it yours

Younger (12-15 months): Let them pat the cloth on the table with no expectation of cleaning. Older (2-3 years): Add wiping their own high-chair tray after a meal. Siblings: Give each child a cloth and a section of table
