A quick hand game where two players link fingers and try to gently pin each other's thumb, run as a light family ladder of short matches. Fills any small waiting moment with playful contact.
How to do it
- Two players hook the four fingers of one hand together, thumbs up and free.
- Chant "one, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war" while tapping thumbs side to side.
- Each player tries to gently pin the other's thumb down and hold it for a slow count of three.
- The winner of a match moves on to play the next family member in the ladder.
- Keep matches short and gentle, and reshuffle whenever you like.
Make it yours
Younger, 5 years: Skip the ladder and play slow, gentle single matches, letting the pin happen easily. Older, 7-8 years: Run a proper ladder or best-of-three matches. Group: Works well as a quick round-robin at a table or while waiting; pair players up as they are free.
