You and your child talk through a set of tricky what-would-you-do dilemmas together, sharing your reasoning and swapping views. A relaxed conversation that gives you both a window into how the other thinks.

How to do it

  1. Pick a relaxed moment and a few tricky dilemmas at a level your child can engage with (found money, a friend's secret, a rule that seems unfair).
  2. Read one dilemma and ask your child what they would do and why, listening without rushing to correct.
  3. Share your own answer too, including when it is genuinely hard or you are unsure, so it feels like a real exchange.
  4. Explore the grey areas together by asking what would change your mind or what if one detail were different.
  5. Move to the next dilemma when the conversation has run its course, with no need for a right answer.

Make it yours

Younger, 9-10 years: Simpler, more concrete dilemmas and shorter answers. Older, 12 years and up: Add dilemmas with no clean answer and follow-ups on what would change their view. Whole family: Everyone answers the same dilemma and compares reasoning, with no winner.
